  • What is Animal Reiki and How Can It Help Your Pet?

    Reiki promotes peace and relaxation.

If you share your life with an animal, you’ll know how deeply sensitive they are — not just to their environment, but to emotions, stress, and change. Many pets struggle quietly with anxiety, fear, trauma, or physical discomfort. This is where Animal Reiki can offer gentle, supportive help.

    What Is Animal Reiki?

Animal Reiki is a non-invasive, holistic energy therapy that supports an animal’s physical, emotional, and energetic wellbeing. It works by channelling calming, balancing energy to the animal, helping their body and nervous system move into a state of relaxation and self-healing.

Unlike some hands-on therapies, Animal Reiki does not require touch. The animal is always in control — they can move closer, walk away, lie down, or simply observe. This makes it especially suitable for nervous, reactive, elderly, or trauma-affected animals.

Reiki can be offered in person or at a distance, and animals respond just as effectively either way.

    How Does Animal Reiki Work?

Animals are naturally intuitive and tend to be very open to energy work. During a Reiki session, I create a calm, grounded space and allow the energy to flow where the animal needs it most.

    Many animals will:

    • Relax deeply
    • Fall asleep
    • Yawn, stretch, or sigh
    • Move towards or away from the energy as they choose

The animal is not forced to do anything they do not want to do, and there are no expectations. The session unfolds entirely at the animal’s pace.

How Can Animal Reiki Help Your Pet?

Animal Reiki can support pets in many different ways, including:

    Emotional and Behavioural Support:

    • Anxiety and nervousness
    • Fear of being left alone
    • Trauma in rescue animals
    • Changes in behaviour
    • Stress caused by moving home, new family members, or changes in routine

    Physical and Recovery Support:

    • Supporting recovery after illness or surgery
    • Comfort for elderly or arthritic animals
    • Helping animals cope with chronic conditions
    • General relaxation and tension release

    End-of-Life and Palliative Care

    • Providing comfort and peace
    • Supporting emotional wellbeing during transition
    • Helping guardians feel more calm and supported during a difficult time

While Reiki is not a replacement for veterinary care, it works beautifully alongside conventional treatment to support the whole animal — mind, body, and emotional wellbeing. If your animal is unwell, the first thing to do is talk to your vet immediately.

    Which Animals Can Benefit?

Animal Reiki can be offered to all animals, including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, reptiles, farm animals, and exotics. Every animal responds in their own unique way, but many guardians notice their pets becoming calmer, more settled, and more emotionally balanced after sessions.

    What Happens During a Session?

Each session is tailored to the individual animal. As a professional pet sitter and holistic animal therapist, I take time to observe behaviour, environment, and emotional cues.

    Sessions may take place:

    • In your home
    • In a familiar outdoor space
    • At a distance, which is ideal for very anxious or sensitive animals

Sessions are quiet, gentle, and respectful. There is no pressure for your pet to “do” anything at all.

Why Choose Animal Reiki for Your Pet?

Many of my clients come to me because their pets:

    • Are highly sensitive or nervous
    • Have a history of trauma
    • Need calm, compassionate, individual support
    • Are unwell, and just need a little extra care

Animal Reiki offers a safe, soothing option that honours your pet’s individuality and emotional needs.

    A Gentle Path to Balance

Animals give us so much — companionship, loyalty, and emotional connection. Animal Reiki is one way we can give something back, offering peace, comfort, and support when they need it most.

  • A Thoughtful Shift Towards Specialist Pet Care

Over the past two years, Rowan’s House has grown steadily, and with that growth has come reflection. Caring for animals in their own homes has always been at the heart of what I do, but it has become clear that the best care happens when that work is focused, calm, and intentional.

As we move forward, Rowan’s House is gently refining its services to focus on in-home cat sitting and specialist dog sitting for pets who need a little more understanding and experience while their owners are away.

    Why the Change?

The pet care industry has changed significantly in recent years. There are now many pet sitting services available, some offering high-volume or very low-cost care. While these options may suit some households, they are not always the right fit for pets who are elderly, anxious, sensitive, or require medication and close observation.

Rowan’s House has always attracted clients whose pets thrive on routine, familiarity, and unhurried attention. By narrowing the focus of the business, I can ensure that each animal receives the level of care they truly need — without rushing, or compromising on wellbeing.

What Rowan’s House Now Specialises In

    Rowan’s House now offers:

    • Professional in-home cat sitting, ideal for indoor cats, elderly cats, anxious cats, and multi-cat households
    • Specialist dog sitting for elderly dogs, sensitive or anxious dogs, and dogs who benefit from calm, experienced handling
    • Care for pets requiring medication, routine monitoring, or extra support

    What Hasn’t Changed

The heart of Rowan’s House remains the same.

Pets are cared for in their own homes, following their normal routines, with respect for both the animals and the household. Every booking begins with a meet and greet, allowing pets and owners to meet me in advance and ensuring that we are the right fit for one another.

Rowan’s House is fully insured and DBS checked, with training in holistic animal care, canine and feline first aid, and specialist animal wellbeing.

This change allows Rowan’s House to remain sustainable while continuing to provide the level of care that your pets deserve. It also ensures that owners can travel with confidence, knowing their animals are being cared for by someone experienced, attentive, and genuinely invested in their wellbeing.

If you are looking for calm, experienced, in-home pet care in Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Sussex and Kent, Rowan’s House may be the right fit for you.

    A Note for Existing Clients

If you are already a Rowan’s House client, please be reassured that these changes do not mean I no longer wish to care for your pets. I truly value the relationships I’ve built with my existing clients and the trust that you have placed in me. This refinement is about moving forward thoughtfully, not about leaving valued clients behind.
